FROM METALREIGNS.COM:
"Here they are. One of the bands that will be spearheading the metal
movement for the next generation. Watch Them Die has the vision and
talent to be one of the bands to keep the metal spirit alive. Their
Century Media debut, Watch Them Die is one of the best debut albums I
have heard in quite sometime. I especially like the intro to the first
song, Torn Pages. "I like to look my victims into the eyes...I want
them to know I am there....I like to Watch Them Die." It just doesn't
get anymore brutal then that. I especially like the vocal mixture.
Both vocalist's (Patrick Vigil, and Greg Valencia) work very well
together. A brutalistic mixture of death and black metal vocals. The
music has a much different feel. Combining elements of death metal,
with punk, hardcore, and grind. However these guys are Bay Area
Thrashers and it shows. They have a unique sound all their own,
although they remind you of different bands in several genere's.

Watch Them Die has made a huge step in signing with Cenury Media as
they are one of the biggest forces in metal. I am very pleased that
bands like Watch Them Die are continuing the work laid down by such
bands as Testament, Metallica, Exodus, and several others. The Bay
Area has been a big factor for metal for many years and it is good to
see the next generation start to rise. The album is definitely worth
checking out. I think most of you will find something you like no
matter it be metal, grind, punk, or whatever. These guys have made a
killer debut album. Now let's see if they can back it up on the road
and with another great album. I really enjoy the aggression displayed
on the album. Good mix with lots of raw in your face energy that many
bands today are lacking. Give it a listen as they rip out your spine
and drive it through your heart. As the light from your eye's fade, we
take notice that we love to WATCH THEM DIE."

Abyss's Review:
"The most impressive debut of the year, and an album that everyone
should run out and buy. If your neighbor is in the way, run them over
and Watch Them Die."
They should have called the band `Watch Them Die Of A Massive Brain
Hemorrhage After Listening To This Album'. Actually, no, I take that
back - their name was better, but mine's more descriptive. This
mixture of thrash and metalcore is quickly tattooing itself on my
brain and cementing itself amongst my favorite albums of the year. Can
this be the beginning of another Bay Area scene? This band combines a
blistering guitar attack with evil, hate-filled vocals that make you
want to be extra careful not to get on these guys'
bad side. The album is all over the place with its pummeling beats,
whiplash-inducing breakdowns and razorblade screams, but at the same
time it is extremely focused and immaculately written. It is urban in
feel, but organic in execution, riding a perfect line between grit and
bombast. There is as much Deceased in this record as there is Lamb of
God, and that comparison doesn't even take into account the horror
movie samples.

The guitar sound is piercing, maintaining a thickness that seems
impossible to bear, but in a delicious and addictive way. The album
does incorporate some hardcore sensibilities, much in the way that
80's thrash did, but even those more averse to the metalcore explosion
will find themselves wanting to throw things around once this album
kicks in.

"This mixture of thrash and metalcore is quickly tattooing itself on
my brain and cementing itself amongst my favorite albums of the year."
The album is a consistent as it can be, but at the same time remains a
diverse meld of styles with songs that are instantly recognizable and
stand up to listen upon listen without ceding any of their initial
power. "Torn Pages" and "To See You Bleed" are my early favorites, but
there isn't a mediocre track on the disc. The songs are generally long
(while the album is only seven tracks, all but two are over five
minutes in length, giving a running time of a little over 40 minutes),
giving each a chance to impress you in different ways.

The most impressive debut of the year, and an album that everyone
should run out and buy. If your neighbor is in the way, run them over
and Watch Them Die. One word review: Punishing

FROM WWW.VAMPIRE-MAGAZINE.COM:

"American band Watch Them Die, brings us an original mixture of different styles a thrashing piece of grindcore with a nice crusty diseases over it. This promo is just a massive attack on the ears and mind. Nothing will be left of you while playing this piece of noise. I felt like getting torn apart and left like a rotting bunch of bowels. I have no clue where this comes from - since there are hundreds of heavier bands than this one, but this band has got something really disgusting and revolting around it. It reminds me quite often to a lot of crust bands, Disfear and Superjoint Ritual for instance, but Watch Them Die has given it an own spin on its music. Without any doubt a nice promo, I'd like to get to some more stuff from the band in the (near) future. Keep your eyes open!"

From WWW.HITTHEPIT.COM:

"It's nice to see that thrash is making a comeback, and the most evil, violent thrash band I've heard lately is Watch Them Die. Holy fuck! If you listen to this CD without knowing what is about to hit you, you'll either shit your pants or have a heart attack. It's insanely brutal and vile, just the thing to put on the stereo at those family reunions and on Christmas.

"Torn Pages" has an ominous, evil feel at the beginning, kind of like when you watch on old slasher flick. Chainsaw riffs, the thundering rhythm section, and evil vocals that change between screams and growls are what you get as they explode into your ears. It's hammering, unrelenting old school thrash that continues to spin wildly as it progressively gets faster and more brutal. "Fall From Grace" hits you with chugging riffs and thunder from the rhythm section to begin. They unleash hellish growls upon you as they chug along, spewing venom and chest-splitting riffs, then the fucker speeds up and unleashes unrelenting thrash upon you with a ton of fury and hatred. Fast, brutal and uncompromising - just the way I like it.

"The Struggle" begins with chugging riffage and the thundering rhythm section. They hit you with more brutality as they stomp and march their way through your speakers. They go apeshit with speed and crank the heaviness and evil factors up a few notches. The vocals are spewed at you with venom as the rest of the band blaze through their parts and attempt to decapitate you. "To See You Bleed" begins with throbbing drum work and chording that's a bit subdued for Watch The Die's usual fare. The evil, guttural vocals are a display of grotesqueness as this slow song churns along. Just when you think they went soft, the whole thing speeds up and the vocals get angrier and more passionate, and the guitars get meatier. And it only gets better as the song progresses.

"Resurrection" has more of the band's trademark heaviness and brutality, then they throw you for a loop and slow the whole thing down. It gets mellow and you get angry vocals with laid back music that has moments of sobering heaviness. Fortunately, they go back to the crazy thrash that got them here for a few minutes and give you another fix until the next time.

Thrash is coming back in a big way and look for this band to be a big part of that resurgence. Remember the name, because once you hear this band your dreams will never be the same. Watch Them Die should be around for a long time to come. "

From WWW.ASPUDD.COM:

"This is an album of immense proportions; Immense proportions of anger, aggression, brutality and cruelty. Sadistic? Yes. Cheerful? No. Cancerous? Yes. Sympathetic? No. Violent? Yes. Tasteful? No. Watch Them Die have produced what they set out to create. A horrific and terrifying album fueled by the thirst for blood and entrails.
Gore or grind is not what Watch Them Die is about. They just take their message of hatred for human existence and the joy of inflicting mortal wounds onto innocent people into the realms of heavy metal. Their thoughts and opinions are clear, precise and easy to understand and follow. Maybe that's what is so scary. You know they mean it. You know that they really have those demons running around inside of their heads, and it's our sick morbid curiosity that keeps us glued to the speakers as this album leads us through gruesome visage after gruesome visage of death and murder."

From WWW.THEGAUNTLET.COM:

'Heavy metal music has always had a love affair with pain and agony, and it has thrived off from the concepts that those who perform it manifest in the dark recesses of their minds. Many have flirted with anthems for murder and vengeance, yet Oakland's Watch Them Die are built on these very urges. Their eponymous debut is a record conceived by men all too eager to inflict damage on those that have slighted them, incorporating a multitude of different extreme styles into their arsenal.
Watch Them Die's debut album is an amalgamation of multiple styles, melding the high-octane blast of thrash with the rebellious urgency of punk music, layered with thick doses of crusty grindcore insanity. If you can imagine a gruesome mixture of Superjoint Ritual, Pig Destroyer and Scar Culture then you have an indication what to expect from this maniacal five-piece. The listener is greeted by the buzzing of flies and an utterly disturbing statement of sadistic pleasure on "Torn Pages", a lethal blast of bestial extreme metal that succeeds in getting your adrenaline surging and your vision to start turning red. The dual vocalist line-up of Patrick Vigil and guitarist Greg Valencia is often effective, yet the throatier vocal spasms emitted borrow heavily from that of infamous metal frontman Phil Anselmo, and when paired with the blackened screeches found scattered throughout the album it is hard to latch onto the energy being spewed forth. The intensity reaches cataclysmic proportions, as Ira Harris' incessant drumming is volatile enough to incite riots and paired with the group's dual thrash guitar attack you get the uncomfortable feeling that no one is safe, and Watch Them Die seem unusually enthusiastic about that very fact. '

FROM TRAGENDA.NET: Thrash music is becoming uglier by the day. This California band wants to torment you from beginning to end with this harsh and abusive offering. 'Torn Pages' is fast, raw and can cause your ears to bleed with the quickness. The vokills are rough and screechy in a Black Metal sense. Don't expect any catchy riffs or hooks, as this band only wants to inflict harm to you. The songs contained are rather long for this brand of music, but who says a thrash song has to be short, right? The vokills come off as more punk/hardcoreish with 'Unleashed.' The song isn't fast, but more mid paced packed with a lot of venom. The guitars will make their way into your brain and see if you can last till the end. Pat's voice is guaranteed to make your neighbors lawn and flowers wilt once you press the play button. Each track just gets more intense than the previous. No one is safe from this band and I like it. Usually, this isn't my cup of tea, but there is something that draws me in and I quite pinpoint it. We now live in a musical ear where bands just don't play a specific style. Many genres and influence are incorporated to make their music interesting and captivating. WATCH THEM DIE is no different. They take the best of metal, punk, hardcore, thrash grindcore and noise. The band puts it in a cauldron and stirs till ready and then serves it to the public. What is really odd here is that when you hear the songs contained within, you will notice all of the genres and some influence. I can be off here, but Pat's vokills can come off like Gary Mekil of PRO-PAIN. There is nothing melodic here. You may have a catchy riff inserted here and there, but don't expect to hear much of that. The cd is packed with piss and venom and the band has no problem with polluting your ears with abrasive music that is not for the weak. If you think you have what it takes, then step right up. Neither the band nor I will take responsibility for your loss of hearing!

FROM UBERMETAL.COM:

"I just stabbed the shit out of him 'til he didn't move anymore."

"I give you: the debut album from Oakland's WATCH THEM DIE, and ladies and gentlemen, it is a trip into the depths of every diseased mind in the world; every serial killer, every terrorist, everyone wishing to inflict bodily harm upon another human being. Is this why I enjoyed it so much?

Yes, I think so.

Abrasive, violent, and unforgiving. This is the type of album you want playing in the background when you finally get your hands on that person who fucked you over, or that person you just don't like... cranking this album, you'll laugh manically while you go to work on them.

The music, which conjures up amazingly brutal imagery, is an enjoyable blend of their bay area thrash roots, some elements of punk, grindcore, and of course traditional heavy metal. Lacking subtlety of any kind, the music is out to crush your cranium, and for the most part, it succeeds with flying colours.

There are a lot of bands out there using snazzy phrases like "will beat listener to a bloody mess", "will make the strongest man cower in fear", and the ever-popular, just plain, "brutal". Phrases/words such as these are used far too frequently to describe bands that just don't have the musical ability to back them up, but I can honestly say that WTD delivers on just about every promise the band has put it it's bio, and fully deserves to use any, and all, of these phrases without a word of a lie.

If there is any kind of a drawback to this album, it's that the songs are a tad on the formulaic side. Every song begins with a sound clip, a-la just-about-every- modern-death-metal-band-there-is-right-now, and all the songs follow the same, or similar, formula. Thankfully though, there are moments when it breaks this pattern. Other than that this, the album's quite flawless. I find Vigil's savage vocals complement the riffage quite nicely, adding to the overall primal feeling of the music itself.

You may need a raincoat when you indulge in this, and indulge in this you will. Be sure to add Watch Them Die to that, most likely, ever-growing "to listen to" list that all us metal folk have. You will not be the least bit disappointed."
